I’ve made apple pie. I’ve heard of berry pies, but I’ve never seen, have, or heard of a pear pie. I originally wanted to make a pear cobbler, but didn’t want to go through the trouble of making a crust, and I already had pie crust in the freezer. So pear pie it is!
- 4-6 Bosc pears, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp date or brown sugar
- 2 tbsp whole wheat pastry flour
- 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground ginger
- dash of nutmeg
- 1 tbsp vegan butter
Cook pears in a pot with a cup or two of water on med-low until it caramelizes and makes it’s own juice. You can even throw in some date sugar or brown sugar.
Mix all other ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Throw in pears and cover them with the mixture completely.
Place pears in an animal-free pie crust, or a homemade vegan crust of your choice.
If you’d like, you can add a couple of more tbsp of vegan butter on the top of the pie.
Crumble another pie crust and place on top of the pears.
Cover with tinfoil and back on 350 for 30-35 minutes.
